About the Client

Ferranti Technologies Limited was established in 1994, and is a world-class supplier of electronic, electrical and electro-mechanical equipment to the defence, aerospace and commercial markets. It offers a range of proprietary products whilst also undertaking design, development and manufacture of bespoke products to customer specifications. The company has expanded its business, both by producing ‘niche’ products, and now offers a range of aviation products including head up displays, cockpit displays etc. in conjunction with its parent company Elbit Systems Ltd.

The Situation

The company acquired a Baan Triton 3.1 ERP system in 1995 Subsequently, the system acquired a typical raft of surrounding ‘add ons’, consisting of SQL reports, Excel spreadsheets, small databases, et cetera.

The company was faced with three factors:

  • Support for the version of the Baan system was due to be withdrawn;

  • the system ran on HP 9000 equipment which was nearing the end of its productive life;

  • a modern ERP system could provide a wider range of functions

The Work Undertaken

We undertook two assignments for this client. The first was a review of the overall IT strategy for the company. The second was the selection of an appropriate ERP system for the future. After a search to find the best solution for the business, a winning proposal from the existing supplier, Infor, was forthcoming, and this low-cost, low-risk option was chosen.
